Winter Breeze at Easter Road

THE CITY

Edinburgh is probably my favourite city in the UK. Most people who travel to Scotland favour it over Glasgow, I personally like both especially when you are a football fan, but Edinburgh really is a beauty whereas Glasgow is more working class.

There are a lot of historic sites and in terms of pubs and restaurants Edinburgh has loads of opportunities being a proper tourist hot spot in Europe. The Old Town, West End, Princes Street and Haymarket are all great locations to experience the Scottish capital. I would even say that every traveller has to visit Edinburgh at least once in his/her life.

THE GAME

Hibernian Edinburgh vs Ross County

3-0

It was a cold night in town with only two degrees in the evening so I was hopeful to see at least a bit of decent football to get distracted from the cold conditions. There are certainly colder places in Scotland though than Edinburgh. The Scottish leagues are more known for fighting spirit and rough tackles so I did not expect one touch football but both sides created a few chances so it was an ok watch. Overall, Hibernian looked the better side throughout and were more clinical in executing their chances. In the end, it was a comfortable 3-0 win for the hosts in front of 14,486 spectators.

THE STADIUM

Easter Road Stadium is a nice ground with some fairly vertical stands and a good view from pretty much every seat. I actually like Hibernian’s ground as much as I like the stadium of their arch-rivals Heart of Midlothian. Both stadiums are not too big but a really good fit to the city of Edinburgh. I would highly recommend attending a fixture of both Edinburgh teams if possible. Tickets are in the region of 25£ for the lower categories which is normal for the Scottish Premiership.

HOW TO GET THERE

Edinburgh Airport is about a 20 minute TRAM ride from the city centre and a one-way ticket costs £6.50. The airport is big enough to fly to numerous destinations in Europe such as Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and several times daily to London.

If you are travelling within the UK there is a fast train going from London to Edinburgh at least once an hour. Waverley station is right in the heart of Edinburgh and most sights are within walking distance. Easter Road Stadium is about a 20 minute walk from York Place TRAM station which is connected directly from and to the airport.
